Jamesport Vineyards is a three-generation family-owned and sustainably-run winery and vineyard on the North Fork of Long Island. Ron and Ann Marie Goerler came to the North Fork over thirty years ago and planted their first Chardonnay vines in 1981. They were some of the leading pioneers in what would become the thriving Long Island winery scene.

Today they produce 7,000 cases of wines annually, growing Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Riesling, Cabernet Franc, Semillon and Syrah over 60 acres.

Recently they planted two thousand Sauvignon Blanc wines with European spacing, which is far denser than the usual Long Island practice. They expect this planting to produce the highest quality of fruit available in the region.

Their wines include Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Semi Glace (ice wine), Later Harvest Riesling, Verius (Grape Juice), Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc, and Melange de Trois, a Bordeaux blend. They are truly an estate winery, using only their own home-grown fruit to produce their wines.

In 1986, Ron Goerler Sr. acquired the 150-year-old barn that now houses the winery and tasting room. Since then, the tasting room has increased in size and the tasting bar has been enlarged to accommodate an ever-growing number of visitors. The winery also has a large event lawn that frequently hosts musical events, private parties and weddings. Weekends at Jamesport often feature live music and the always-popular oyster bar, which serves the best oysters that local waters have to offer.

Jamesport Vineyards still takes the same approach as they did when they were founded – to leave the land in better shape than when they began. The Goerlers believe in sustainable approaches to growing their vineyards and making their wines. Today they use integrated pest management practices which help them use less fertilizers, fungicides and herbicides on their plants. This approach is directly reflected in the quality of the wines they produce, which have won numerous awards and medals.

The tasting room is open seven days a week from ten a.m. to six p.m. The winery also has a wood-burning pizza oven available to accompany their award-winning wines. If you like what you taste, a wine club membership is available to deliver Jamesport wines to your door year wide.
